Update Reality XP GNS430/530 WAAS navigation database/AIRAC

If you own the wonderful Reality XP GNS430/530 WAAS here is a quick tutorial on how to update the navigation database that comes to the product (from 2007) to a newer one (newst I could find was from 10 2009).

  1. Create a backup copy of the following files in your GNS400W-500W Trainer installation folder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Garmin\GNS400W-500W Trainer)
    • basemap.bin
    • terrain.odb
    • terrain.tdb
    • worldwide.bin
  2. Download and install the G600 Trainer from here (this contains the newer navigation database):
  3. In the G600 Trainer folder, go to GDU\db subfolder (e.g. C:\Program Files\Garmin\G600 Trainer\GDU\db) - it is very important to go to GDU\db and not  the other folders in the installation!
  4. Create a local copy of this file: BMAP.BIN. Rename the copy to basemap.bin. This is the only  file that changes it's name  from the two versions so this is why the rename.
  5. Copy the following files from the G600 Trainer\GBU\db folder back to the GNS400W-500W Trainer folder (overwrite  the existing files  -  that you should have backed  them up at step 1).
    • basemap.bin
    • terrain.odb
    • terrain.tdb
    • worldwide.bin
      Do not copy the other two  remaining files in the GBU\db folder as they will not work ( e.g. safetaxi.bin and terrain.adb)
  6. Power up the Garmin GNS 530 trainer and look at the navigation database validity. It should be now 2009 instead of 2007. If you encounter any problem just restore the files backed up at point 1 and they should be gone. After following these steps you can uninstall the G600 Trainer to save some space.
Hope this works for you too. Enjoy the flights and as always do the update at your own risk!

You are awesome! I have a copy of Elite Simulation Solutions version 8.6 Premium IFR Sim. I have tried to get an update for some time now, as I had the fiercely outdated 2007 database. Now, thanks to you I have the Oct 2009 update and I have far more approaches in my region to choose from. Thanks for very much for the early Christmas present! Cheers!

I installed the DreamFleet Beech Baron 58, and I am trying to do som IFR flights, but with old database is practically impossible! I hope it's work great!

Thanks for it! :D

I would LOVE to know how you figured this out! Worked beautifully - updated my 430 database from 2007 to 2010 vintage, which fixed some of my obsolescence issues. Now I am looking for other Garmin trainer updates that might have an even fresher database. I also have a real GNS430 in my real airplane, and am tempted to look in the cycle updates for any clues on how to get the data from there into the simulator database.

thanks again!

The mind is a great philosopher. And life is not a philosophy, life is a reality. And philosophy is an escape from reality; philosophy means thinking. Life is, there is no question of thought. You can simply jump into it. You can simply experience it. Visit my site for more information.Thank you.

Inspired by your idea I wanted to know if you can get a newer database and downloaded the GTN650 trainer. You will find the database from April 2015 in the downloaded zip-file without the need to install the trainer.

.\GTNPCTrainerLite_5130.zip\CommonAppData\Garmin\GTN Trainer\db

bmap.bin -> basemap.bin
AVTB_WW_DB.bin -> worldwide.bin

Works fine for the airspace database, terrain not tested.

Thank you

Just checked the website and they have just released version 6.01.1 in July, 2016.
Just wondering if anyone has already downloaded this? I would like the basemap and worldwide files only(the rest is garbage to me). I would do it myself, but we have terrible internet (Still on a very slow ADSL1 in our part of australia).
My email is rjfon1-----at----hotmail.com. Don't want to get spammed by a robot, so you all should know what to do with the interesting email address.

Many, Many thanks in advance.

v6.01.1 does work, you just need to do the following:
bmap.bin -> basemap.bin
006-d0170-00.bin -> worldwide.bin

Ok, so I cannot download 6.01.1 because there aren't any links for it anymore. I got 6.21.0 and renamed the bmap.bin and that works ok but I can't find the worldwide.bin substitute. I tried all the other bin files and nothing worked. Also the odb files are now odb2 files so they dont work either. Can someone please upload the 6.01.1 version or even the april 2015 version mentioned here? Cheers!

I am in the same predicament as Lex Taylor. Is 6.01.1 available through an upload?

Nice post. I study something more challenging on different blogs everyday. It should all the time be stimulating to read content material from other writers and practice a little one thing from their store. I’d prefer to make use of some with the content material on my blog whether you don’t mind. Natually I’ll offer you a link in your internet blog. Thanks for sharing. casino slots
